Fox’s Six Goals Leads Men’s Lacrosse Past Aurora 16-13

ASHLAND, VA - Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse picked up their second consecutive win Tuesday night as they defeated Aurora 16-13. The Yellow Jackets will host York (Pa.) Saturday at 3:00pm.

Freshman Robert Fox led the charge for R-MC, scoring six goals with one assist, 13 ground balls and 11-for-19 in face offs. Justin Butler and Jason Andrews netted four goals apiece as the Yellow Jackets totaled 40 shots.

R-MC controlled the first quarter with two scores from Fox and a buzzer beating goal from Andrews to take a 3-0 advantage.

Aurora broke into the scoring column with 14:30 to go in the second quarter when Danny Loyall found the back of the net but Randolph-Macon's Fox answered with a goal just seven seconds later after winning the faceoff.

The Yellow Jackets pushed their advantage to 8-3 on a Louie Bafford score with 8:16 left in the first half and eventually took a 9-4 lead into halftime.

With R-MC leading 13-8 to start the fourth quarter, AU tallied three consecutive goals to pull within two at the 8:05 mark.

Randolph-Macon answered with a 3-0 run of their own on goals from Fox, Butler and Andrews to go back on top by 5.

The Spartan attack netted two man up goals in the final four minutes but the Yellow Jackets' Nick Benhoff, who went 6-for-11 in the circle, won a crucial faceoff with 50 seconds on the clock to secure the 16-13 victory.

Goalie Jordan Devito made 16 saves in the net and picked up seven ground balls for R-MC.

Randolph-Macon wins despite trailing 42-40 shots but fought for a 40-28 edge in ground balls on the rainy night in Ashland.
