Randolph-Macon Upsets Roanoke 17-11 in ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals

SALEM, VA – No. 6 seed Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse upset No. 3 seed Roanoke College 17-11 in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets will now face No. 2 seed Shenandoah on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 in Winchester, VA.

After R-MC trailed 4-3 five minutes into the contest, Jackie Martin sparked a 3-0 run that also included goals from Emily Lynch and Shannon Jamieson to put the Yellow Jackets on top 6-4.

The Maroons used goals from Jamie Golden and then Darragh Evarts with 7:36 to play in the first half to tie the game 6-6.

Randolph-Macon responded quickly when Katie Russo scored with 5:15 left in the half to spark a pivotal 8-1 run that spanned halftime. Jamieson and Jenelle Whitman followed with a goal each to end the first half while Lynch opened the second period scoring with an unassisted tally.

Whitman then beat the keeper twice in a 26 second span and Lynch added two more scores to run the R-MC advantage to 14-7 with 16:05 to play.

Roanoke cut the edge to 15-11 with just over two minutes on the clock after Evarts scored three consecutive goals, but Randolph-Macon's Lynch and Betsy Hebert put the game away with scores in the final minute.

Lynch led the offense with five goals and an assist while Jamieson totaled four scores and a helper.

Whitman finished with three goals and a game high nine draw controls, helping R-MC to a convincing 21-8 advantage.

Goalie Nicole Woodworth made 13 saves on 24 shots to improve her record to 11-5 between the pipes.

The Yellow Jackets held a 25-19 edge in groundballs while the Maroons had a 33-29 advantage in shots.
