The R-MC Equestrian team was back in action before the spring term had even started with a full weekend of competition at both Liberty University and Sweet Briar College on February 8th and 9th respectively. R-MC earned the Reserve High Point award at Liberty demonstrating the true meaning of teamwork.
Two Randolph-Macon Eventing team members topped the United States Eventing Association’s Intercollegiate leaderboard for 2019. Junior Charlotte Stillfried (King and Queen Courthouse, Va.) has been named the Modified Intercollegiate Rider of the Year and sophomore Morgyn Johnson (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was named Training Rider of the Year. In addition, sophomore Katherine Delaney placed fourth on the Preliminary Intercollegiate leaderboard.
The Yellow Jackets' IHSA team closed out their fall season with both High Point Team and High Point Rider wins at Virginia Commonwealth University on Sunday. Senior Eliza vanderWoude (Warrenton, Va.) won both her Open Flat and Open Fences classes to end the day as High Point Rider and has qualified for the Chaccione Cup division at Regionals, the highest honor in the IHSA.
The Yellow Jackets were all around the state this weekend building on their hard work and earning wins across the board. The Eventing Team contested the final Collegiate Team Challenge of the 2019 year at the Virginia International Horse Trials in Lexington, Va. Randolph-Macon sent two teams and finished the weekend in 3rd and 4th place among 18 teams. R-MC bested teams from University of Kentucky, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, University of Tennessee, Otterbein College and NC State.
