Brooks Third for R-MC Men’s Golf at VSGA Intercollegiate

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Randolph-Macon freshman Austin Brooks (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian) is tied for third out of 93 individuals at 2-under 70 after Monday's first round of the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Intercollegiate Tournament at the Blacksburg Country Club.

The Yellow Jackets are 13th out of 17 in the team standings.

Brooks had three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey during his round. He was 1-under on the front nine as well as 1-under on the back nine.  

Freshman Nathan Wright (Sagaponack, N.Y./East Hampton) shot 78 in Round 1. He birdied No. 5 and had 12 pars, including seven on the back nine.

Freshman Zach Boote (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) carded an 82. He had three birdies and eight pars.

Junior Grant Burchette (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) shot 87 on Monday. He birdied No. 3 and added seven pars.

Freshman Nick Schnur (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished with a 90. He birdied No. 18 and had eight pars.

The second and final round will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
