Women’s Tennis Earns Sweep Of Meredith

ASHLAND, Va. – After a week delay in hitting the courts because of rain, Women's Tennis earned a 9-0 sweep against Meredith in its season-opener Saturday.

In the doubles competition, No. 1 duo of senior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and junior Morgan Fuqua (Richmond, VA / Mills Godwin) earned a win against Meredith's No. 1 pair Aly Henneberry and Natalie Collins. The two won 8-3. Yeager returns as a piece of an All-ODAC First Team doubles pairing at No. 2 last season. Fuqua was 4-2 in doubles last year at Shenandoah before transferring to Randolph-Macon.

Last year's All-ODAC First Team at No. 1 double pair, senior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) and junior Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York) won their match against Meredith's Emily Wilkinson and Brittney Brown 8-2, playing in the No. 2 spot in today's match.

Junior Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) and freshman Gabby Cifuentes (Stafford, Va. / Paul VI High School) earned a sweep at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-0 against Meredith's Logan King and Alexandra Cheney.

In singles matchups, Tersini, playing at No. 1, defeated Natalie Collins 6-1, 6-1. Tesigni is also the reigning ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete.

At No. 2 singles, Fuqua defeated Henneberry 6-4, 6-0, while Dantzler won at No. 3 singles against Wilkinson 6-1, 6-1.

Yeager secured a near sweep of her opponent Brown at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Aud, who returns as the All-ODAC Second Team player at No. 5 singles won 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Daniella Hafner (Leesburg, Va. / Loudoun County) won against King, winning 6-4, 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets return to the court tomorrow against Emory & Henry. The match time has been moved up to 9:00 AM to account for weather moving into the Central Virginia area tomorrow.
