
The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team opened their spring season victorious as it took down in-state rival Mary Baldwin on Sunday afternoon, 8-1. The Yellow Jackets swept the Fighting Squirrels in doubles play, losing a total of nine games through three matches. Becky Villeda (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) and Mary-Blair Seward (Clarmont, Va./Appomatox) set the tone at three doubles with a score of 8-2. In singles play the Jackets were paced by Freshman Camilla Thurman (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic) who cruised to a straight set victory at the number one singles slot. Katie Sarnowski (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) was able to pull out a close match at three singles defeating her opponent 7-5, 7-6 in hard fought second set tiebreaker. With the victory the Yellow Jackets move to 3-1 heading into next weekend's contests.
