Women's Volleyball Closes Season in First Round of NCAA Tournament

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team took the road to Transylvania University for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night. The Pioneers used a strong second and third set to move to the next round.

The Basics:

Scores: Transylvania 3, Randolph-Macon 0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-9)

Location/Venue: Lexington, Ky./Transylvania University/Clive M. Beck Center

Records: Transylvania 25-5, 9-0 HCAC, Randolph-Macon 23-7, 10-2 ODAC

How It Happened:

  • The opening set was a back-and-forth battle, being tied early in the set, and then R-MC cut the deficit to two later, but the Pioneers held off the Yellow Jackets to take set one.
  • The Pioneers took control early in the second frame, jumping out to a 10-3 lead and not looking back as errors proved costly for R-MC.
  • R-MC held the third set close for the first nine points, but the Pioneers used lengthy runs to jump out to an advantage and ultimately take the third set 25-9 despite four kills in the final set from Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII).

Inside The Numbers:

  • Parker added 10 kills on the night, as well as nine digs. She led the team in both categories.
  • Leslie Currie (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) picked up six digs to add to her team-leading total on the season.
  • Milly Mach continued to rack up assists in her freshman campaign, grabbing 16 on the night.
  • Mia Zazzero (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names), Megan Bost (Angier, N.C./West Johnston), and Ashlyn Knott (Clarksville, Va./Bluestone) all picked up three kills to help the efforts at the net.
